Your questions, answered.
What is a Brazilian butt lift?
A Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, transfers your own fat to the buttocks after it is collected through liposuction. It can change shape and volume, but it cannot guarantee a particular waist-to-hip ratio or correct every type of skin laxity.
Planning your procedure
Your assessment considers your health, skin quality, available donor fat and the change you want. Limited donor fat may restrict the result that can reasonably be planned. Liposuction areas, injection plans and any additional procedures should be discussed separately, including whether surgery is appropriate for you.
Ultrasound guidance and fat placement
Dr. Bravo describes his approach as Ultra SAFE BBL. He uses real-time ultrasound imaging during fat injection to help monitor the cannula and tissue layers. The intended injection plane is the fat layer above the gluteal muscles and their covering fascia. This is a safety measure supported by plastic surgery societies. It does not make BBL risk-free.
The liposuction technique and the way fat is prepared are also part of the plan. No technique guarantees perfectly smooth donor areas, a fixed amount of fat survival or a particular final shape.
Risks and realistic results
BBL carries serious risks, including fat embolism, which can be fatal. Other possible complications include blood clots, bleeding, infection, fat necrosis, contour irregularities and anesthesia complications. Your consultation should address your individual risks, the measures used to reduce them and the alternatives.
Some transferred fat is absorbed during healing. The retained volume varies, and the result changes as swelling settles. Later weight changes and aging can affect the contour; further treatment may sometimes be considered.
Recovery and follow-up
Before surgery, agree on a written plan for pressure precautions, sitting, sleeping, garments, work, driving and exercise. These are separate recovery milestones. Timing depends on your procedure and healing, and should be confirmed at follow-up rather than assumed from a general online timetable.
